A Focused Half Day

Delhi, Properly Seen — In Half the Time

Not everyone has a full day to give to Delhi. Travelers on a layover, business visitors with a free afternoon, families with young children, or anyone arriving on an early train — for all of these, the half day Delhi city tour is the perfect format. Four to six hours, one private car, one expert guide, and a route that delivers the very best of the city without ever feeling rushed.

The genius of the half day tour is that Delhi divides so naturally into two distinct cities. There is Old Delhi — the dense, chaotic, intoxicating Mughal capital of mosques, forts, and bazaars. And there is New Delhi — the spacious, ceremonial, tree-lined imperial city of monuments, gardens, and government buildings. Each is a complete experience; each deserves its own half day. We let you choose which Delhi you want to see, and which time of day suits you.

Because the tour is fully private, your guide adapts the pace to you. Want longer in the Chandni Chowk bazaar? Done. Prefer to skip a stop and spend the time at the Qutub Minar instead? No problem. The half day tour from Delight Tours India is the most efficient way to experience Delhi — and one of the most rewarding.

Perfect for Tight Schedules

Layover travelers, business visitors, and early arrivals love the half day format. You see the essential Delhi in a focused window and still have the rest of the day free — for meetings, onward travel, or rest.

Two Cities, Your Choice

Choose Old Delhi for Mughal history, bazaars, and street life — or New Delhi for imperial monuments, gardens, and grand boulevards. Each route is a complete, satisfying half day in itself.

Morning or Afternoon Slot

Start fresh in the cool morning, or set out after lunch and finish in the golden light of late afternoon. Both slots are available year-round, and your guide will advise the best fit for your chosen route and the season.

Fully Private & Flexible

It's your car, your guide, and your schedule. Linger where you like, skip what you don't, and adjust the route on the move. No group minibus, no forced shopping stops, no compromises.

Old Delhi or New Delhi — Two Half-Day Routes

Each route is a self-contained half day, complete with hotel pickup, expert guiding, all entry fees, and a relaxed pace. Pick the Delhi you most want to experience — or book both, on consecutive days, to see the whole city.

Route A

Old Delhi — The Mughal Heart

The dense, atmospheric capital of the Mughals — its great fort, its grand mosque, its legendary bazaar, and the river-side memorial of the nation's father. Best taken in the morning slot, before the heat and crowds peak.

Morning Preferred 4–6 Hours Expert Guide
1
Netaji Subhash Marg · Mughal Era

Red Fort — Lal Qila

We begin at Delhi's defining monument, the great red sandstone fortress built by Shah Jahan as the seat of Mughal power. Enter through the Lahore Gate, walk the covered Chatta Chowk bazaar, and explore the Diwan-i-Aam and the marble pavilions of the Diwan-i-Khas, where the legendary Peacock Throne once stood. Your guide brings three centuries of imperial history to life.

2
Old Delhi · Shah Jahan's Mosque

Jama Masjid

India's largest mosque and Shah Jahan's final architectural triumph. The vast courtyard holds 25,000 worshippers; the red sandstone and white marble façade is one of Mughal architecture's masterpieces. Climb the southern minaret (optional) for one of the finest panoramic views over the rooftops of Old Delhi.

3
Old Delhi · Legendary Bazaar

Chandni Chowk & Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib

The beating heart of Old Delhi — a 17th-century bazaar that has never stopped trading. Travel its narrow lanes by cycle rickshaw (optional), past spice markets, silver merchants, and the famous Paranthe Wali Gali food street. We pause at Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib, one of Delhi's most significant Sikh shrines, marking the site of the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

4
Yamuna Riverbank · National Memorial

Raj Ghat

The tour concludes at Raj Ghat, the serene riverside memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, marking the place of his cremation in 1948. A simple black marble platform set within tranquil landscaped gardens, with an eternal flame burning at one end — a moment of quiet reflection to close the Old Delhi half day.

Route B

New Delhi — The Imperial City

The spacious, ceremonial capital of monuments, gardens, and grand boulevards — from the soaring Qutub Minar to the war memorial of India Gate. Excellent in either slot; particularly beautiful in the golden light of late afternoon.

Morning or Afternoon 4–6 Hours Expert Guide
1
Mehrauli · UNESCO Site

Qutub Minar

We begin at the soaring Qutub Minar — at 73 meters, the tallest brick minaret in the world, begun in 1193 to mark the dawn of Muslim rule in India. Explore the surrounding complex: the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, the mysterious 1,600-year-old Iron Pillar that has never rusted, and the ruins of Alai Darwaza, all set in landscaped grounds.

2
Nizamuddin · UNESCO Site

Humayun's Tomb

The magnificent garden tomb of the second Mughal emperor — the architectural blueprint for the Taj Mahal a century before it was built. Set within the geometric perfection of a Persian charbagh garden, its red sandstone and white marble dome is one of Delhi's most beautiful and serene monuments. A highlight of any New Delhi tour.

3
Kartavya Path · War Memorial

India Gate & Rashtrapati Bhavan

Drive the grand ceremonial axis of Lutyens' New Delhi. Stop at India Gate, the 42-meter war memorial honoring 90,000 Indian soldiers, and take in the sweeping view down Kartavya Path toward the President's Palace. We pass Rashtrapati Bhavan, the circular Parliament House, and the symmetrical Secretariat buildings — the grandest government quarter in Asia.

4
Lodi Estate · Heritage Garden

Lodi Garden

We close the New Delhi half day at the beautiful Lodi Garden — 90 acres of landscaped parkland dotted with the 15th-century tombs of the Lodi and Sayyid dynasties. A peaceful, green finale, beloved by Delhi residents, and the perfect place to wind down before your drive back. Particularly lovely in the late-afternoon slot.

Traveler's Guide

Planning Your Half Day Delhi City Tour

It depends on what draws you. Choose Old Delhi if you want Mughal history, atmospheric bazaars, street life, and iconic monuments like the Red Fort and Jama Masjid — it is dense, vivid, and intense. Choose New Delhi if you prefer space, gardens, grand monuments, and a more relaxed pace — the Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, and India Gate. First-time visitors who want the "wow" of Mughal Delhi often pick Old Delhi; those who prefer calm, photogenic monuments lean toward New Delhi. If you genuinely cannot choose, book both routes on consecutive days and see the entire city. Your guide is happy to advise based on your interests when you enquire.

The morning slot typically begins around 8:30–9:00 AM and is ideal for Old Delhi, when the bazaars are opening, the air is cooler, and the crowds are thinner. The afternoon slot usually starts around 1:30–2:00 PM and suits New Delhi beautifully, finishing in the golden light of late afternoon at India Gate or Lodi Garden. Both slots are available for either route, year-round. In the summer months, the morning slot is far more comfortable; in winter, both are pleasant. We'll recommend the best fit when you confirm your route.

Yes — it is one of our most popular uses of the half day format. For a comfortable airport-to-airport experience, we recommend a layover of at least seven to eight hours, which allows for immigration, the drive into the city (around 45 minutes each way depending on traffic), the four-hour tour, and a safe buffer before your onward flight. Your driver collects you directly from the arrivals area, your guide manages the timing closely against your flight, and we return you to the terminal with time to spare. Let us know your flight details when you enquire, and we will design the timing around them.

Within the time available, yes. Because the tour is fully private, you can swap a stop, linger longer somewhere, or request a specific monument not listed. Combining the absolute top highlights of both Old and New Delhi into a single half day is possible but tight — you would see fewer sites, more briefly, with more driving. For most guests we recommend committing to one route to do it justice. If you want both cities' highlights together, our Same Day Delhi Tour (full day) is the better choice. Tell us your priorities when you enquire and we'll build the ideal route.
