About The Tour

India's Most Popular Private Tour — The 4-Day Golden Triangle Explained

Ask any experienced India travel specialist which Golden Triangle package they recommend most, and the answer is almost always the same: the 4-day Golden Triangle tour. While the 3-day version covers the essentials efficiently, the 4-day format adds something invaluable — breathing room. That single extra day transforms the pace from whirlwind to wonderful, giving you a dedicated afternoon in Old Delhi on arrival, a leisurely Agra morning that includes the usually-skipped Baby Taj and the incomparable Mehtab Bagh sunset, and a complete Jaipur day without the pressure of a same-day Delhi return.

The 3-night, 4-day Golden Triangle tour is the package we have refined most carefully over our 25 years of expertise. It begins the moment your driver meets you at Indira Gandhi International Airport — or your Delhi hotel — and ends with a smooth airport drop on Day 4. In between, you move through India's most celebrated heritage arc in your own private air-conditioned vehicle, guided by city specialists who have spent careers mastering their home cities.

The circuit covers approximately 730 kilometres: Delhi to Agra (210 km via the Yamuna Expressway), Agra to Jaipur (240 km via Fatehpur Sikri), and Jaipur to Delhi (280 km via National Highway 48). What distinguishes Delight Tours India is the calibre of our guides — certified by the Ministry of Tourism, fluent in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, and Italian — and the complete transparency of our pricing: all tolls, parking, and driver allowances included, with no hidden charges at any stage.

The 4-Day Advantage

Why the 4-Day Tour Outperforms the 3-Day Version

Six specific reasons our guides, our guests, and 25 years of experience all point to the 4-day format as the ideal Golden Triangle itinerary.

A Real Delhi Day

The 3-day tour treats Delhi as a transit corridor. The 4-day format gives Old Delhi — Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, Red Fort — its own afternoon, so you arrive in Agra rested rather than rushed.

Baby Taj & Mehtab Bagh

Two of Agra's most moving experiences — the Itmad-ud-Daulah tomb and the Taj sunset from Mehtab Bagh — are only possible on the 4-day tour. The 3-day version simply has no room for them.

Unhurried Taj Sunrise

Arriving in Agra the previous afternoon means Day 3 begins with a completely relaxed Taj Mahal sunrise — no exhausted 4-hour pre-dawn drive from Delhi, just a short hotel-to-gate transfer.

Full Jaipur Exploration

The 4-day format allows a proper morning-to-afternoon Jaipur day with Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, and Jantar Mantar — plus bazaar time — without the rush of a same-day Delhi return.

Human-Pace Travel

The most consistent feedback from guests who upgrade from 3-day to 4-day: "I had time to simply sit and absorb it." That sense of presence — not rushing between monuments — requires an extra day.

Time to Eat Well

The best meals in Agra and Jaipur take time. The 4-day tour allows a proper dinner at a Taj-view rooftop restaurant, a Rajasthani thali in the Pink City, and a food walk through Old Delhi.

The Three Cities

Delhi, Agra & Jaipur

Three cities. 2,000 years of layered civilisation. Perfectly sequenced across four days — each one given the time and attention it truly deserves.

Delhi

The Layered Capital

From Shah Jahan's medieval lanes to Lutyens' imperial boulevards — the 4-day tour gives Delhi the attention it deserves across two half-days. Old Delhi's Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid on Day 1, then Humayun's Tomb, India Gate, and Kartavya Path on Day 2 before the Agra drive.

City of the Taj Mahal

The 4-day format unlocks all of Agra — Taj Mahal at sunrise, Agra Fort, the exquisite Baby Taj (Itmad-ud-Daulah), and the incomparable Mehtab Bagh sunset view. No other Golden Triangle package has an Agra afternoon to spare for these last two extraordinary experiences.

Day-by-Day Plan

Complete 4 Days Golden Triangle Tour Itinerary

Our optimised 3 nights 4 days Golden Triangle tour India itinerary — refined over 25 years of private touring. All timings are indicative and fully adjustable to your pace.

Day 1

Delhi — Arrival & Old Delhi Exploration

Pickup: flexible  ·  Overnight: Delhi

Chandni Chowk · Jama Masjid · Red Fort Night in Delhi
1

Airport / Hotel Pickup — Flexible Arrival

Your driver meets you at Indira Gandhi International Airport or your Delhi hotel at a time to suit your arrival. The 4-day Golden Triangle tour begins immediately. We track your flight in real time — your pickup is guaranteed regardless of delays.

2

Chandni Chowk — Cycle Rickshaw Ride & Spice Market

The first afternoon is entirely devoted to Old Delhi. Begin with a cycle rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk — the silver-and-spice market street operating continuously since Shah Jahan built it in 1650. The lane system radiates outward: Dariba Kalan for silver jewellers trading from the same family shops for generations, Khari Baoli for Asia's largest wholesale spice market where mountains of dried chillies and turmeric create a spectacular sensory experience, and Kinari Bazaar blazing with wedding trimmings and fabrics.

3

Jama Masjid & Red Fort Exterior

At Jama Masjid — Shah Jahan's supreme mosque built between 1644 and 1656 with capacity for 25,000 worshippers — your guide narrates the history of Mughal religious architecture and political significance. You then drive past the Red Fort's massive red sandstone walls before winding through the old quarter's lanes discovering spice merchants, textile dealers, and rooftop chai stalls with sweeping views across the minarets.

4

Hotel Check-in — Overnight Delhi

Return to your Delhi hotel for check-in and rest. The 4-day advantage is clear already — you arrive in Old Delhi without the pressure of a day's driving ahead. Tomorrow, New Delhi's imperial grandeur before the afternoon drive to Agra.

Day 2

New Delhi Sightseeing → Drive to Agra → Baby Taj & Mehtab Bagh Sunset

Start: 09:00 AM  ·  Arrive Agra: ~5:30 PM

Humayun's Tomb · India Gate · Baby Taj · Mehtab Bagh 210 km · Yamuna Expressway · ~3 hrs
1

Humayun's Tomb (UNESCO) — 09:00 AM

After hotel breakfast, your guide takes you into New Delhi. Humayun's Tomb (1565) is the tour's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Designed by Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, this garden-tomb introduced the concept of a monumental tomb set within a formal Persian char bagh garden raised on a high plinth and crowned with a double dome. Every architectural element that would reach its supreme expression in the Taj Mahal 67 years later was invented and first realised here.

2

India Gate & Kartavya Path

India Gate stands at the eastern end of Kartavya Path — a 42-metre sandstone arch commemorating 84,000 Indian soldiers who fell in World War I. The sweeping ceremonial boulevard stretches from Rashtrapati Bhavan (the Presidential Palace) to India Gate, flanked by sandstone Secretariat buildings designed by Herbert Baker. The contrast with yesterday's medieval Old Delhi is immediate and total.

3

Drive to Agra — Yamuna Expressway (~3 hrs)

After a lunch stop, depart for Agra on the smooth Yamuna Expressway (210 km, approximately 3 hours). Arrive in the late afternoon — ready for two exclusive Agra experiences that no other Golden Triangle package has time to include.

4

Baby Taj — Itmad-ud-Daulah

Built by Empress Nur Jahan between 1622 and 1628 as a mausoleum for her father, this was the first Mughal monument faced entirely in white marble and the first to use pietra dura inlay — the technique elevated to perfection in the Taj Mahal 20 years later. Its intricate latticed marble screens and intimate scale make it one of the most exquisite buildings in India, visited by a fraction of the Taj's crowds.

5

Mehtab Bagh — Sunset View of the Taj Mahal

Cross the Yamuna to Mehtab Bagh (Moonlight Garden) — a Mughal garden directly across the river from the Taj Mahal, precisely aligned with the monument's central axis. At sunset, the Taj's white marble shifts through shades of amber and rose, perfectly reflected in the river below. This view is available only to visitors already in Agra the previous afternoon — arguably the finest single photograph of the Taj anywhere. Hotel check-in and overnight in Agra.

Day 3

Taj Mahal Sunrise → Agra Fort → Fatehpur Sikri → Jaipur

Start: 05:30 AM  ·  Arrive Jaipur: ~9:30 PM

Taj Mahal 05:30 AM 240 km · via Fatehpur Sikri · ~4.5 hrs
1

Taj Mahal at Sunrise — 05:30 AM

Day 3 begins before dawn. Your guide collects you from your Agra hotel at 5:30 AM for the short drive to the East Gate — a brief, relaxed transfer rather than an exhausted 4-hour pre-dawn journey from Delhi. The Taj opens at sunrise, and being among the first visitors places you in front of the Darwaza-i-Rauza as the monument reveals itself in pre-dawn light. White marble transitions from deep grey to pale lilac to translucent silver-white. Your Agra-based specialist narrates the full story: Shah Jahan's grief, the 22-year construction, 22,000 artisans, and 28 varieties of semi-precious stones inlaid in pietra dura patterns across every surface.

2

Agra Fort (UNESCO) — Two Hours

After hotel breakfast and checkout, two hours at Agra Fort — begun by Emperor Akbar in 1565 from red sandstone, expanded by Jehangir, and completed by Shah Jahan. Inside the 2.5-km perimeter wall: the Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, the Jehangiri Mahal, and the Musamman Burj — the octagonal marble tower where the deposed Shah Jahan spent his final eight years of imprisonment, with a direct view of the Taj Mahal across the Yamuna.

3

Fatehpur Sikri — Mughal Ghost Capital (90 min)

A 90-minute exploration of this extraordinary UNESCO site — a complete Mughal imperial capital built in red sandstone between 1571–1585 by Emperor Akbar, then abandoned in 1585 when the water supply failed. Highlights: the Buland Darwaza (54 metres — the world's largest gateway), the latticed marble tomb of Sufi saint Salim Chishti, and the multi-columned Diwan-i-Khas with its central carved pillar.

4

Drive to Jaipur · Hotel Check-in ~9:30 PM

Continue through Rajasthan's landscape to Jaipur, arriving approximately 9:30 PM. Hotel check-in and overnight rest. A full dedicated Jaipur day awaits tomorrow — no driving pressure, no rush — the finest way to experience the Pink City.

Day 4

Full Jaipur City Tour → Return to Delhi / Departure

Start: 09:00 AM  ·  Delhi drop: ~8:30 PM

Amber Fort · Hawa Mahal · City Palace · Jantar Mantar · Jal Mahal 280 km back to Delhi
1

Amber Fort — 09:00 AM

Your Jaipur-based expert guide begins at Amber Fort, 11 km north of the city on a ridge above Maota Lake. Arrive by shared jeep through Suraj Pol (Sun Gate), then through successive courtyards to the breathtaking Ganesh Pol — a triple-arched gateway covered entirely in paintings and mirror mosaics. Beyond it lies the Sheesh Mahal (Palace of Mirrors), where convex mirror fragments embedded in every surface of the ceiling and walls create the illusion of a thousand candle flames from a single flame. Panoramic Aravalli views are extraordinary.

2

Hawa Mahal — Palace of Winds

Five storeys of 953 intricately carved jali (latticed) windows and honeycombed projecting balconies (1799), built to allow the royal women of the Zenana to observe street festivals while remaining unseen. One of the most distinctive and photographed facades in Indian architecture — best viewed from the street-facing café opposite, which provides the perfect angle.

3

City Palace & Jantar Mantar (UNESCO)

City Palace remains partially occupied by the royal family — its museums display royal textiles, miniature paintings, and the Diwan-i-Khas with the world's largest pure-silver urns (each holding 4,000 litres). Adjacent Jantar Mantar (1734) is the world's largest stone astronomical observatory; its Samrat Yantra sundial stands 27 metres high and is accurate to within two seconds — a testament to Maharaja Jai Singh II's mathematical genius.

4

Bazaar Time & Jal Mahal Photo Stop

With the 4-day format, you have genuine time for Jaipur's famous bazaars — Johari Bazaar for gems and jewellery, Bapu Bazaar for block-printed textiles, and Nehru Bazaar for Rajasthani blue pottery. Our guide knows which dealers are reputable. Conclude with a scenic photo stop at Jal Mahal — the Water Palace floating on Man Sagar Lake with the Nahargarh hills behind.

5

Drive Back to Delhi · Drop-off ~8:30 PM

Depart Jaipur for Delhi (280 km, ~5 hours). Drop-off at your Delhi hotel, Indira Gandhi International Airport, or any preferred location — marking the end of an unhurried, complete 4 days golden triangle tour India that covered everything, missed nothing, and felt nothing like a rush.

Insider Knowledge

Insider Tips for Your 4 Days Golden Triangle Tour

01

Day 3 Sunrise = Pure Magic

Because you arrive in Agra the previous afternoon, your sunrise Taj visit begins with a relaxed 5-minute hotel-to-gate drive rather than an exhausted 4-hour pre-dawn journey from Delhi. You arrive awake, calm, and completely ready to absorb the moment.

02

Mehtab Bagh — Best Taj Photo

The sunset view of the Taj from Mehtab Bagh — directly across the Yamuna — is available only on the 4-day tour. No other Golden Triangle package has an Agra afternoon to spare. The reflection at dusk is extraordinary and completely uncrowded.

03

October–March is Ideal

Peak comfort season runs October through March (10–24°C). November–February offers the finest Taj sunrise conditions. January sometimes brings ethereal river mist. April–June reaches 44°C — feasible but demanding. We operate year-round with tailored seasonal advice.

04

Buy Jaipur Gems Carefully

Jaipur is the world's largest gem-cutting centre and its jewellery bazaars offer extraordinary value — but require a knowledgeable guide. Our Jaipur specialists know which gem dealers are reputable and which to avoid, so you shop with confidence.
